DREDGING BARGE AND TAILING MANAGEMENT
Cleaning of dumps and dams, whether they are lined or unlined, is an essential process conducted to restore these areas and alleviate issues related to spillage and environmental contamination violations. The sludge accumulated in the over-spilling dams is pumped or vacuumed out and can be transported over distances exceeding 3 kilometers to designated disposal areas or, alternatively, to a transfer place for further processing.
This type of tailings management is particularly utilized on recovery dumps and ash dams, with the primary goal of recovering precious metals that may have escaped from the refinery processing plants. Additionally, it plays a significant role in the recovery of water from tailings dams. To achieve this, a weir is constructed to effectively separate the water from the sludge, and a sump pump is installed to facilitate the removal of the separated water. In some cases, a barge equipped with a pump and pipework is floated on the water surface to manage the water extraction. Alternatively, an excavator mounted on a barge or a service platform constructed over the dam can be used to access and clean the more difficult areas.
Through these comprehensive methods, the cleaning of dumps and dams addresses critical environmental concerns and ensures compliance with regulations, while also promoting the recovery of valuable resources and water management.
